Gallery of the City of Bratislava
New BIATEC exhibition
The Celtic Mint, prepared by the Municipal Institute for the Preservation of Monuments in Bratislava (MÚOP) in cooperation with the City Gallery of Bratislava (GMB), presents the Latenian cultural heritage through visual stories. Linking the architectural design of a relatively small space with modern digital technologies, it brings visitors a wealth of content in an interactive format.
The idea of creating a permanent exhibition of Celtic coinage arose immediately after the completion of the archaeological research that took place in Pálffy Palace at 19-21 Nálepkova Street (today Panská Street 19) in 1982-1985. This research produced a significant discovery. The findings confirm the activity of the Celtic mint, which was located in these very places. In addition to the stratigraphic layers and objects themselves, the finds of so-called technical pottery testified to this minting activity. It was the first time that it was discovered in such quantities on the territory of Bratislava.
